PHOTOSENSITIVITY

In this episode, we delve into the world of photosensitivity. We discuss the inherent differences between primary and secondary photodermatoses and how a good clinical history and examination findings can assist with diagnosis. In addition, the role of investigations including the use of phototesting, the gold standard for proving photosensitivity, is also explored.

A/PROF CHRIS BAKER AM

A/Prof Chris Baker is a clinical dermatologist based in Melbourne with appointments at St Vincent’s Hospital and the University of Melbourne. He is the Director of Dermatology at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, a past President of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and former President of the Skin Health Institute.  A/Prof Chris Baker has particular interest in advanced psoriasis therapies, photodermatology and phototherapy, and clinical trials. He established the first dedicated photodermatology and light testing facility in Australia at St Vincent’s Hospital.

A/Prof Baker was co-founder of the Australasian Psoriasis Registry (APR), an online Australian and New Zealand registry established in 2008 for psoriasis patients on systemic and biologic therapies. He was involved in implementing and developing local treatment protocols for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.  He has authored papers on goals of care and quality of life studied in psoriasis. A/Prof Chris Baker is currently lead investigator in a collaborative project developing biofabrication of skin and 3D printing.

Dr Laxmi Iyengar is a GP and education research fellow at the Skin Health Institute. She is passionate about delivering evidence-based medical education for all medical professionals, promoting health equity and fostering interprofessional collaboration.
