Overview

Join us for an informative webinar that delves into the formation and mechanism of antidrug antibodies (ADAs), their impact on the efficacy and safety of biologic therapies, and strategies for monitoring and managing ADAs in clinical practice. This session will feature a distinguished panel, including a dermatologist, rheumatologist, and gastroenterologist, who will each provide their unique perspective on how ADAs affect their respective fields.

The Zoom meeting will commence at 7:30pm.

Professor Paul Bird
BMed (Hons) PhD FRACP

Professor Paul Bird has over twenty years of experience in treating rheumatic disease, with particular expertise in Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis.

Internationally recognised as a specialist in rheumatic disease and imaging, he is the current Chair of the International Magnetic Resonance Imaging Research Association and actively participates in national and international rheumatology research.

Providing consultation imaging services to Synarc, Bioclinica, Imorphics, and Boston Imaging Core Lab, he continues to participate in image interpretation and analyses in rheumatology clinical trials.  He has been the Principal Investigator in over sixty clinical trials and continues to undertake Investigator Initiated Trials. In 2016, his collaborative research on Vertebroplasty was published in the Lancet.

A/Prof Viraj Kariyawasam
MBBS FRACP

A/Prof Viraj Kariyawasam is a senior gastroenterologist and endoscopist who holds academic positions at Macquarie University and Western Sydney University. After completing his gastroenterology training at Gosford, Westmead, and Concord Hospitals, Dr Kariyawasam earned his FRACP in 2011. He further specialised in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and completed a clinical research fellowship in IBD at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in the UK.

A/Prof Kariyawasam is widely published and actively involved in teaching and clinical research. He completed his Ph.D. on thiopurines in IBD at the University of Sydney. His practice covers all gastroenterology and liver disease aspects, with expertise in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. He is interested in cancer screening, and early colorectal, oesophageal, and stomach cancer detection. He provides advanced surveillance for IBD patients and has expertise in removing precancerous lesions and large polyps endoscopically.

A/Prof Kariyawasam co-founded the IBD Sydney Organization to enhance IBD training and patient care, bridging the gap between rural and metropolitan areas in NSW. He has contributed to developing national and state guidelines for IBD care and dysplasia surveillance.
