Dr Patrick Mahar is a specialist dermatologist, who is educated and experienced in medicine, business and law. He is a fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and the Australasian College of Legal Medicine. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery simultaneously with his Bachelor of Laws from Monash University. He also completed his Master of Business Administration at the Melbourne Business School, alongside a Doctor of Philosophy with Deakin University and a Doctor of Medical Science with The University of Melbourne whilst simultaneously specialty training in dermatology.

He is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has served as a board member for both the medical indemnity organisation MDA National as well as the Australian and New Zealand Burns Association. He is a former member of the managing committee for the Medicolegal Society of Victoria.

In 2014, whilst a dermatology trainee, he was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia in part for contributions to patient safety.
