Join Dr Ben Daniel (dermatologist) and Dr Chris Anthony (cardiologist) as they present on metabolic syndrome and psoriasis.

Dr Ben Daniel will present an overview of metabolic syndrome and psoriasis, while Dr Chris Anthony will present on the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic syndrome, including his thoughts on chronic inflammation and metabolic syndrome.

Dr Benjamin Daniel is an Australian trained Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and a consultant dermatologist at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. He also works at Melanoma Dermatology which is affiliated with the Melanoma Institute of Australia. He is a Senior Lecturer at UNSW and regularly teaches medical students and junior doctors and is actively involved in the teaching and mentoring of dermatology trainees.

He completed a 2-year pre-dermatology research fellowship in autoimmune blistering diseases alongside his Master of Medicine, for which he received Honours for his thesis. As part of his training, he spent six months at the National Skin Centre in Singapore where he was exposed to a broad range of skin conditions affecting Asian skin. He is a Member of the International Society of Dermatology and American Academy of Dermatology.

​Dr Daniel has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at both local and international conferences. He has also written book chapters on common skin conditions. He was awarded the Harvey Rotstein Award for academic excellence, collegiality and professionalism through registrar training. He has a particular interest in eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, acne, autoimmune blistering diseases, excessive sweating and pigment disorders.

Dr Chris Anthony

Dr Chris Anthony undertook his basic physician and cardiology training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and subsequently completed a PhD in Cardiac MRI based Tissue Characterization Techniques in the Assessment of the Cardiac Allograft at the Victor Chang Cardiac Institute through UNSW, supported by scholarships from the National Heart Foundation and Australian Government Research Training Program. His work was awarded the President’s Prize and Early Career Research Award of the Transplant Society of Australia and New Zealand in 2019 and was selected as a finalist for the Ralph Reader Clinical Prize of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand in 2020.

His first in-world study demonstrated that a Cardiac MRI based ‘Virtual Biopsy’ technique for the surveillance of heart transplant rejection was safe and effective in the first-year post-transplant and was published in Circulation. Upon the conclusion of his doctoral thesis, he completed a two-year advanced multi-modality cardiac imaging fellowship in structural echocardiography, Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI at the Cleveland Clinic Ohio, where he was selected as the inaugural Ellen H & F Gene Braun Fellow. Chris is a Staff Specialist in Cardiology at the Alfred Hospital.

His interests include CMR based myocardial tissue characterisation techniques in the assessment of cardiac function in various disease states including metabolic disease.
