More and more frequently we hear the term ‘skin of colour’ being used colloquially and in medicine. What exactly do we mean by the term ‘skin of colour’? Why are patients with ‘skin of colour’ considered different, unique or distant from societal norms?
In this episode, specialist dermatologist Dr Ahmed Kazi, passionately educates the listener about how and why common skin conditions present differently in patients with skin of colour, and variations in the natural history of these conditions.

DR AHMED KAZMI
Dr Ahmed Kazmi is a specialist dermatologist and clinical senior lecturer. He undertook his training in London at prestigious centres including The Royal London Hospital and The Royal Free. He enjoys all aspects of adult and paediatric dermatology including acne, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and skin checks/skin cancer management. He has particular expertise in hair and scalp disorders (alopecia areata, androgenic alopecia, scarring alopecias etc.) including injection therapies for these disorders. He has previously successfully completed the Fellowship in Alopecia of the Australasian Hair & Wool Research Society and is currently undertaking the Evidence Based Hair Fellowship of the Donovan Hair Academy. He also has a special interest in skin of colour dermatology, JAK inhibitors/biologics and transgender medicine.
DR LAXMI IYENGAR
Dr Laxmi Iyengar is a GP and education research fellow at the Skin Health Institute. She is passionate about delivering evidence-based medical education for all medical professionals, promoting health equity and fostering interprofessional collaboration.
