His research involves using advanced laboratory techniques in different subpopulations of melanocytes in mammalian skin. In particular\, he is studying how an intermediate progenitor-like melanocyte subpopulation is implicated in the pathogenesis of vitiligo and developing new treatments for vitiligo patients. Dr Chew has worked clinically at a number of metropolitan and regional health services in various medical\, surgical and dermatology roles including Skin Health Institute\, Alfred Health\, Monash Health\, Epworth Richmond\, West Gippsland Healthcare Group and Latrobe Regional Hospital. He is a clinical research fellow at the Skin Health Institute and the Victorian Melanoma Service.
